The Delights of Diving Virgin Gorda
as reported to me by fellow diver Suzanne Mulvehill
Getting there was half the fun, said Suzanne, because our trip to fabulous dive destination Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) started off with a flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico. After our overnight stay, we flew to Tortola/ Beef Island, and then a ferry took us to Virgin Gorda.
The highlight of our trip was diving “The Chimney” (15’-45’) a narrow descent into white coral, made famous by Jacques Cousteau. Our guide points out his son Phillipe’s boat nearby at the same time. The water is crystal clear. The sheer amount of white and brightly colored corals and sponges is breathtaking. We take care not to damage them with tanks or fins. The fish swim with us. We are happy.
For snorkeling and hiking, the Baths National Park was a wonderful day trip.
